I was born in Detroit in the sixties (you do the math) and I started drawing when I was a teenager. I have always had a passion for art and music. When I was seventeen I moved with my family to southern California and a few years later I began to study art at LA City College and then Otis School of Art. After that I moved to San Francisco to study at the Art Institute where I was for the next five years.
I studied spray painting with Tom Akawie , an important Bay Area artist who had been an instructor to such artists as Ed Ruscha, Vija Celmins and Barry Mcgee. I also studied drawing with Franklin Williams and Sherri Laminae. After art school I worked as a mural painter, doing projects with other painters and working on my own.
Having studied spray painting in San Francisco in the early to mid-nineties, I am heavily influenced by graffiti art, what I learned of Beat culture and by scientific images. I make paintings that are often dark, otherworldly and psychological. I try to create a landscape where mysticism and science can exist side by side.
